Description of Book

Born into a life of hard work, English housemaid Annie Wood arrives in New York City in 1911 with her wealthy mistress. Wide-eyed with the possibilities America has to offer, Annie wonders if there’s more for her than a life of service. Annie chooses to risk everything, taps into courage she never knew she had, and goes off on her own, finding employment in the sewing department at Macy’s. While at Macy’s Annie catches the eye of a salesman at the Butterick Pattern Company. Through determination, hard work, and God’s leading, Annie discovers a hidden gift: she is a talented fashion designer—a pattern artist of the highest degree. As she runs from ghosts of the past and focuses on the future, Annie enters a creative world that takes her to the fashion houses of Paris and into a life of adventure, purpose, and love.

This is the first book by Nancy Moser I have ever read and believe you me, it will not be the last.  I loved this book from the start, it was GREAT.

The book starts out as Annie Wood leaves England and comes over to America, New York City, to be exact.  She is a maid for Lady Newley and her daughter Miss Henrietta.  Annie is so excited to be in New York City that she can’t stand it.  She actually helps Miss Henrietta especially doing alterations on her wardrobe and realizes she loves that.  In the meantime, she meets Danny and Iris who are brother and sister.  There is one mean man, Grasston, who is employed for the same family and he doesn’t like Annie or any of them at all.  So, all 3 of them decide to runaway and get away from service work.  They run into the Tuttles and they take them in from the cold.  Then, Annie decides to go to work at Macy’s department store, which sounds wonderful to me.  What an honor oh my goodness.

Annie then starts to have problems with Grasston and he attacks her.  There are police who help Annie and they charge him with assault and battery.  Danny tries to protect Annie and Grasston kills Danny.  She has to testify against him which she does.

She, then meets Sean Culver, who works at Butterick Patterns and gets Annie on at Butterick Pattern Company.  This is all I am going to say about this book, or I will spoil it for you.

This is a GREAT book, I loved it so much that I didn’t want to put it down.  Thank you Nancy Moser for giving us such a GREAT book.  You are wonderful.

Thank you, Barbour Publishing for giving me this book to read and give this honest review.
